Tory Lanez Shrugs Off $20,000 Fine After Blocking Deposition in Megan Thee Stallion Case

The rapper was held in contempt for refusing to cooperate in the defamation trial and allegedly dismissed the penalty, citing his wealth.

Tory Lanez and his attorney, Crystal Morgan, have been hit with a $20,000 fine for repeatedly blocking Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team from deposing him in her defamation lawsuit against YouTube personality Milagro Gramz, whose legal name is Milagro Cooper.

Lanez was found in contempt of court after refusing to answer questions tied to the case.

According to Rolling Stone, U.S. Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid warned the “Say Yes” singer that continued noncompliance would result in financial penalties.

Ultimately, the “Chixtapes” rapper replied and said he didn’t care what the fines were, due to his millionaire status.

The defamation case between the “Savage” rapper and the blogger officially opened on Tuesday (Nov. 18), according to a report from BET.com

Megan alleges that Cooper used her platform to harass her, discredit her, and intimidate her after she testified against Lanez, who was convicted for the 2020 shooting.

She is pursuing three claims against the YouTuber: defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and the promotion of an altered sexual depiction.

The third claim is tied to a Florida law that went into effect in 2024, which holds people accountable for sharing or promoting AI-manipulated sexual images of real individuals.

The lawsuit says that Cooper liked a deepfake video of her on X and then told followers to “Go to my likes,” a move her team argues pushed people to view and spread the doctored clip.

She allegedly repeated the instruction on Stationhead, which the “Lover Girl” rapper’s lawyers say shows she intentionally directed her audience to the altered content.

The blogger was the first to take the stand, where she admitted to steering her followers toward the explicit AI-generated video.

She argued, however, that the clip was already making the rounds online and that her audience was asking her about it.

The social media personality also maintained that she was reporting on the situation on her own, even as she hoped Lanez might eventually give her an exclusive interview.
