New Yorkers Go to Macy's to See "Special" Black Santa

After being in the news for racial profiling, Macy's has a Black Santa available to visitors, but by request only.

Fox News commentator Megyn Kelly recently told viewers that Santa Claus is white. But that would be difficult to detect by the crowds who are traveling to Macy’s flagship store in New York City and asking to see an African-American St. Nick.
Of course, Macy’s has long had a Black Santa in their “Santaland” holiday section. But many customers say that he has been difficult to find. This year, however, more African-American customers have requested to see the “special Santa,” although they complain that they initially knew little about his presence.
Macy’s has been the focus of accusations of racial profiling in recent months and held meetings with other major department store executives and civil rights group. As a result, the stores crafted a code of conduct for their businesses with regard to how African-American and Latino customers are treated.
People going to Macy’s Santaland say that the Black Kris Kringle is made available to those standing in long lines only by special request. Still, many African-American shoppers say they traveled to the giant department store in Manhattan just so see him.
“I could have gone anywhere, but I came right here to Macy’s because I knew they had an African-American Santa,” said Elizabeth Kittles, as quoted by CBS.
“It’s great that they have that option,” Kittles said. “But it would be great if they put it out there either on the visitors’ website or when they advertise when Santaland is open.”
A spokeswoman for Macy’s did not return several calls from BET.com requesting comment.
