“Divorced Sistas” Deserves a Drama-Filled Soundtrack—So We Made One
Given that Tyler Perry’s “Sistas” has taken us on such a wild ride for the past few years, it’s safe to say that Tyler Perry’s “Divorced Sistas” is about to step up the shenanigans even more. With the original sistas, we’re dealing with a friend group that’s still dating and navigating relationships, with the hope that it will lead to marriage. We’re still waiting for one of them to take that step, but until then, let’s jump to the more seasoned veterans of “Divorced Sistas.”
LeToya Luckett, Khadeen Indrea, Jennifer Sears, Briana Price, and Porscha Coleman play Rasheda, Geneva, Naomi, Tiffany, and Bridgette, a group of friends who support each other through the ups and downs of divorce. Here’s a kickoff playlist inspired by the show:
“Kill Bill” - SZA
A lot of us have been there, whether divorced or not. It’s all about the emotions you go through when you’re trying to move on but can’t really, and sometimes you may even feel like if you can’t have them, no one will. Okay, that’s a lot, but you already know this group of ladies is going to take us there.
“Almost Doesn’t Count” - Brandy
Once the storylines unfold we’ll start to see if this song applies. But at the end of the day, you can’t be one foot in and one foot out of a relationship. It’s either all or nothing.
“Not Gon’ Cry” - Mary J
This song is all about the classic tale as old as time, a woman being taken for granted, only for her to realize she was always more into her husband than he was into her.

“Misty Blue” - Monica
This is yet another tune about struggling to get over a former flame. It’s not fun in real life, but the concept makes for good soap opera drama.
“I Will Survive” - Gloria Gaynor
This is a cheesy, yet necessary, tried-and-true anthem of optimism and survival. These ladies are going to need this type of energy going into the drama that lies ahead.
“Girl” - Destiny’s Child
This is also a cheesy, but necessary anthem. “Divorced Sistas” is all about the power of sisterhood, and this group of friends is going to be leaning on each other a lot.

“Superwoman” - Karyn White
Sometimes it takes divorce, or being near divorce, to realize that you do too much for someone who takes you for granted. This karaoke favorite is a stark reminder of that.
“Creep” - TLC
Hopefully, one of these ladies was forced to take matters into her own hands, get it? Look, if her spouse wasn’t acting right then maybe she needed to get some get back, which would also be great for drama.
“Caught Out There” - Kelis
Sometimes, the only appropriate response is crashing out, and Kelis blessed us with the perfect anthem for that. Sometimes you gotta throw and break stuff, or get that Bernadine from “Waiting to Exhale” level of expression out of your system.

“Me, Myself and I” - Beyonce
Having a tribe of sista-friends who have your back is key. However, don’t forget yourself. The most integral part of healing is relearning yourself figuring out what your new needs are so that you can heal and move forward.
