Snoop Dogg Under Fire for Response to LGBTQIA+ Storyline in Pixar’s 'Lightyear'

The rapper’s remarks about a same-sex couple in the animated film have sparked criticism online, with many calling his comments dismissive and out of touch.

Snoop Dogg is under fire following recent remarks that have sparked backlash from the LGBTQIA+ community.

During his appearance on the “It’s Giving” podcast, the West Coast native recounted a story about taking his grandson to see the film “Lightyear.” During his retelling of the experience, he shifted the conversation to the film’s same-sex couple and its kissing scene, involving two women, sparking criticism for the way he addressed LGBTQIA+ representation in children’s media.

"They're like, ‘And she had a baby … with a woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She a woman!’” The 54-year-old shared with the host.

“Oh sh*t. I didn’t come here for this sh*t. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”

The entrepreneur quickly redirected his grandson’s attention back to the film, encouraging him to stay focused.

“Hey, man, watch the movie,” he told his grandson.

However, that didn’t work because his grandson still had questions.

“Uh-uh. They just said she and she had a baby. They’re both women, how did she have a baby?” the Death Row Records founder recalled his grandson asking.

He responded, telling him the “movie ain’t over with,” before beckoning him to enjoy his popcorn.

"It’s like, I’m scared to go to the movies now,” the rapper said on the podcast.

“Y’all throwing me in the middle of sh*t that I don’t have an answer for. It threw me for a loop. What part of the movie was this?’ These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. … I don’t have the answer.”

The “Baby Boy” star expressed that Hollywood is “putting it everywhere,” seemingly referring to queer representation.

This didn’t sit too well with social media, with fans expressing their disdain for his dismissive remarks.
