Wendy Williams to Reunite with Father for His 94th Birthday After Judge Grants Travel Request
Wendy Williams has been granted a brief suspension from her court-ordered guardianship to celebrate a special family milestone.
According to TMZ, a judge has approved Williams’s request to travel to Miami for two days to be with her father on his 94th birthday.
The news comes after the former host of “The Wendy Williams Show” publicly expressed her distress over possibly missing the occasion while talking with the outlet’s Harvey Levin. A video surfaced of her interview, during which she spoke to Levin over the phone while standing at her bedroom window. The moment left social media users in disbelief, with one person on X (formerly Twitter) posting their thoughts:
Williams has been under guardianship since May 2022.
During an interview on “The Breakfast Club” with cohosts DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, and Jess Hilarious, she described it as isolating and emotionally abusive. “I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” Williams stated. She revealed she’s unable to leave the assisted living facility in New York where she resides, nor is she allowed to have visitors.
The former media personality painted a stark picture of her daily life under guardianship: “I keep the door closed, I watch TV. I listen to the radio. I watch the window. I sit here, and my life goes by.”
The outlet notes that private security will accompany her on the trip, ensuring she can celebrate with loved ones. While her release is brief, it is a significant moment in the media legend’s ongoing struggle for autonomy.
The last time she was publicly spotted in Miami was last December when she proudly attended her son Kevin Hunter Jr.'s college graduation at Florida International University.
