BET Goes Pink: Alicia Keys Directs Tracee Ellis Ross and Rosario Dawson in Cancer Film

Five is a collection of short films about breast cancer.

Oct. 10 marks Alicia Keys's directorial debut in the Lifetime television movie Five.  Keys's vignette, "Lili," is one of the five short films about breast cancer. Rosario Dawson plays Lili and is joined by Tracee Ellis Ross, star of BET's Reed Betwen the Lines, along with famed actress Jenifer Lewis.

The BoomBox reported:

The "Songs in A Minor" creator co-directed the made-for-TV film alongside actresses Demi Moore and Jennifer Aniston. "Five" chronicles the emotional journey women face from breast cancer diagnosis to chemotherapy. Each section of the film is woven together to create a story arc that holds each character together.
Keys's piece of the puzzle, titled "Lili," follows the life of a career-driven woman — played by Rosario Dawson — who must lean on her mother and sister to get through the treatment despite their familial differences.

The great thing about Keys's vignette is that for once it allows a place for women of color to be part of a national dialogue about breast cancer — something that doesn't happen with this amount of attention.
