While talking with Angie, the conversation took a turn towards the subject of Taylor Swift’s masters. The news that the masters were purchased by Scooter Braun as part of his purchase of her former label Big Machine Records — a move Swift publicly decried — sparked a fierce debate over ownership within the music industry. 

Braun, who manages Ariana Grande, Kanye West and Justin Bieber, bought ownership of Big Machine Records through his company Ithaca Holdings for a record $300 million dollar deal. The thing is, Taylor and Scooter don't have the best of relations. The feud between Swift and Braun goes way back.

Taylor aired out all her feelings on Tumblr where she accused Scooter of bullying her for years and working with Kanye and Justin to undermine her. She pointed to her beef with Kanye over the infamous line from his song “Famous” as one of the instances where they’ve tried to humiliate her. So it’s not a shocker that she isn’t too happy with him owning her music catalog. 

Jermaine, who has a long history with Braun, stepped up to defend the celebrity manager.
“I think the way it’s being said sounds malicious,” he said, pointing out how labels own most musician’s masters. “He just saw an opportunity and made a move.”
