President Donald Trump criticized Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime performance minutes after it ended, turning the show into an immediate political flashpoint.

The Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist delivered a primarily Spanish-language set at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, featuring bright visuals, dancers and guest appearances from Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. The performance concluded with Bad Bunny holding a football that read “together we are America” while stadium screens displayed the message “the only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

Shortly afterward, Trump posted on Truth Social calling the halftime show “one of the worst, EVER.”

“It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence,” the president wrote. “Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World.”

The performance itself did not reference political candidates or legislation. However, it took place during ongoing national debate over immigration policy and followed Bad Bunny’s recent public comments on the issue. At the Grammy Awards last week, he said “ICE Out” while accepting Album of the Year. The artist has also previously declined to schedule some mainland U.S. tour dates citing concern that fans could be targeted by federal immigration enforcement.

Supporters praised the halftime show online as a celebration of Latin culture and Puerto Rican identity on one of the world’s largest television broadcasts. Critics, including some conservative commentators, argued the Spanish-language performance did not appeal to all viewers.

Super Bowl LX drew major television ratings and concluded with the Seattle Seahawks defeating the New England Patriots for the championship.

Neither the NFL nor Bad Bunny had publicly responded to Trump’s remarks as of Monday morning.
