Raven-Symoné Opens Up About Why She Walked Away From The Music Industry
Raven-Symoné shares her reasoning for leaving the music industry.
In an interview with Tish and Brandi Cyrus for their podcast, “Sorry We’re Cyrus,” the actress tells the hosting duo how she wanted to continue in the music space, but felt the “mandatory outfit was a bathing suit, and I'm not going to get in one.”
She continued, expressing how, at the time, she felt “the more naked you are on the stage, the better it is” and refused to do so, resulting in her stepping away.
She recalls going back and forth with her label during that time period, retelling an incident of a label executive telling her mother how the former Disney star was “so fat” and questioned her stamina, inquiring how she can go “so long on stage.”
During the interview, she also reflected on why she felt her music career never reached its full potential, expressing that she felt she “didn’t have the machine behind me to push through,” which she describes as both a “blessing and a curse.”
The “That’s So Raven” star was signed to Hollywood Records at the time, the home to many prominent Disney Channel stars like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and The Jonas Brothers, but “The Cosby Show” star revealed to the hosts how her experience wasn’t pleasant, calling it “a mess.”
The 39-year-old released four studio albums and toured twice to promote her “This Is My Time” and her self-titled album.
She released singles like “Double Dutch Bus,” “Backflip,” and her own rendition of “Grazing In The Grass.”
She also released a soundtrack from her hit series, spawning singles like “Supernatural,” “Shine,” and the show’s official theme song, which was very popular amongst fans.
