Astroworld Lawsuits Officially Combined Into One Case

Court documents show one judge will now handle at least 387 individual lawsuits that represent nearly 2,800 alleged victims.

Rapper Travis Scott and Live Nation are now facing one single lawsuit following the Astroworld Festival tragedy, which left 10 people dead in Nov. 2021.

Court documents obtained by Billboard show at least 387 individual lawsuits that represent nearly 2,800 alleged victims will now be handled by one judge for all pre-trial proceedings, according to the Texas Judicial Panel On Multidistrict Litigation.

Those lawsuits, seeking billions in total damages, claim that Scott, the festival promoter Live Nation and other organizers of the event were “legally negligent” in the orchestration of Astroworld.

It is unclear which Texas state judge will handle the case, but in the joint filing, both sides requested Judge Lauren Reeder, Billboard notes.

According to PEOPLE, on Dec. 22, 2021, the House Oversight Committee announced that it would launch a bipartisan probe into the events that led to the deaths of 10 Astroworld concertgoers after sending Michael Rapino, CEO of LiveNation, a letter informing him of the investigation.

“Concert attendees have provided firsthand accounts of being crushed within the crowd as it surged towards the stage,” the letter read. “Live Nation Entertainment (Live Nation) was the concert promoter reportedly responsible for 'planning, staffing, putting up money, securing permits, finding vendors, communicating with local agencies,' for Astroworld Festival.”

Live Nation confirmed that they would cooperate with the investigation.

Scott sat down with Charlamagne Tha God in December of last year in his first public interview since the Astroworld Music Festival. The Houston rapper described the aftermath of the crowd surge as an “emotional roller coaster.”

When asked if he feels he should take any responsibility for the festival, the 30-year-old spoke about being involved in the process.

“I have a responsibility to figure out what happened here. I have a responsibility to figure out the solution,” he said. “Hopefully this takes a first step for us as artists, having more insight about what’s going on.”
