Marlon Wayans Shares How He Learned To Embrace His Trans Son, Kai

“I just want my kids to be free,” said the comedian.

Marlon Wayans is sharing how a familiar skill helped him become supportive of his son's evolution.

In a candid interview as a guest on "The Breakfast Club" on Friday (Nov. 10), the "White Chicks" star opened up on how he arrived at a state of acceptance of his 23-year-old son's LGTBQ journey, per Sis2Sis. For Marlon, comedy helped him bridge the gap.

During the episode, Marlon explained how he is planning to curate a new comedy special entitled "Skittles or Rainbow Child" as a response to his child's journey.

Skittles or Rainbow Child is about my daughter,” he said. “I have a daughter that transitioned into a son. My daughter Amai (Zackary Wayans) is now Kai…so I talk about the transition. Not his…their transition but my transition as a parent, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance.”

Marlon then reflected on his reliance on humor when his son revealed he was transitioning.

“‘You transitioning into your brother. You look just like him…I can’t tell the difference between him and Shawn," he joked.

"I got to respect their wishes, and as a parent, I just want my kids to be free," he said, referring to Kai as they/them.

“I want them to be free in spirit, free in thought, free to be themselves. The more you know yourself, the more you can govern yourself, the more you live your truth, the happier your existence. So, if they can’t get that in the household with their father and their mother, how the f- -k do I send them out into the world with that kind of confidence?”

Shawn shares Kai and son Shawn, 21, with his ex-girlfriend, Angela Zackery.
