From ‘Sinners’ to Solo Travel: Michael B. Jordan on Comfort Zones, Wunmi Mosaku, and What Makes Him Cry

The prolific actor has been making rounds in the press, sharing personal stories that make him more and more lovable.

Everybody who’s anybody has their microphones up in Michael B. Jordan’s face lately!

The “Sinners” star has been chatting it up with the press on red carpets and sharing personal moments that keep the news buzzing.

Jordan recently discussed his emotional responses to certain films/series for W magazine. When asked what movie makes him cry, he named both blockbuster and animation fare alike. “‘Armageddon’ gets me all the time. Yeah. I drop…dropped tears in Armageddon big time,” he said. He added that the anime “My Hero Academia” moved him recently, noting a specific episode that brought him to tears. Maybe Jordan was watching some of those tear-jerkers as he skirted off on his first solo vacation.

Jordan also told Access Hollywood that he took his first solo vacation, spending time alone in Japan after a year of work that included shooting “Thomas Crown” in London. “I just needed a little peace and quiet. So, I took my first solo trip, and I was out in Japan solo,” he told Scott Evans. “I was actually just kind of chilling, being in my own thoughts…reflecting a little bit on the last two years.”

On the iconic film “Sinners,” Jordan said the project encouraged him to pursue familial history, and he reflected on how performing in a period piece connects artists to larger histories. “It changed things in a way,” he said, describing how the production prompted him to learn more about where he comes from. Jordan also praised co-star Wunmi Mosaku’s performance as Annie and said he could watch her work repeatedly.

It’s obvious that “Sinners” deserves the rewards of recognition, and Jordan shared the feeling of being part of a film that resonated with audiences and inspired him personally. During the Access Hollywood interview, he also spoke about working with collaborators like Ryan Coogler and the ways projects have pushed him beyond comfort zones.

As the awards season continues on, it’s clear that Jordan is a contender. The zeitgeist has been buzzing around the idea that Jordan played more than two characters in “Sinners” as the twins Smoke and Stack.

W asked his co-star, Mosaku if she was able to tell the twins apart on set, and she said, “I never got confused. I could tell if he was Smoke or Stack with my back turned. We had this kind of magnetism when he was Smoke. And when he was Stack, we were on the other side of the room. It was his cadence, his rhythm, his energy, his spirit, his face. Stack has dimples, and Smoke doesn't."
