The 53rd NAACP Image Awards are just a few short days away, and it’s slated to be a good one, recognizing outstanding performances in film, television, theater, music, and literature. While many viewers may be looking to see who takes home some of the most prestigious awards of the night, including “Entertainer of the Year” or any of the number of movie categories, we’re hype about this year’s music portion.
Some of this year’s hottest artists, including Saweetie, Doja Cat, and Wizkid, earned nominations for various awards at this year’s ceremony. Ahead of this year’s event, check out the artists nominated for “Outstanding Music Video and Visual Album”.
Saweetie feat. Doja Cat - "Best Friend"
Grammy-nominated rap stars Saweetie and Doja Cat team up for this uptempo track about camaraderie as they swipe left on “another fake woke misogynist.” The glam-packed visual found the pair dancing in front of Birkins, a bedazzled Tesla, and even skinny-dipping off a cliff together.
Wizkid feat. Tems - "Essence"
Released in April 2021, this colorful visual, directed by Director K of PriorGold Pictures, find the Nigerian duo lounging about in the streets of Accra, Ghana. At times Wizkid is spotting driving in a car with two beautiful women, while Tems hypnotizes viewers with her rich vocals and even more vibrate beauty.
Tobe Nwigwe feat. Fat Nwigwe - "Fye Fye"
Debuting initially on Facebook, Tobe Nwigwe and his crew returned following a brief hiatus for a hyper-active and elaborate visual for his latest single, “Fye Fye.” Who knew mint green could look this good.

Chlöe - "Have Mercy"
Chloe Bailey, of the R&B sister, dup Chlöe X Halle, tapped visual maven Karena Evan for the first visual from her solar debut. The video, seemingly inspired by the story of Medusa, which was filmed in July 2021, found Chlöe as the head of a sorority house full of gorgons who seduce a group of fraternity brothers and turns them into stone.
Silk Sonic - "Leave The Door Open"
The Bruno Mars and Florent Dechard-directed visual debuted alongside its single. Shot in a Motown carpet studio, this sun-bathed video exudes soul and funk, leaving the door open for several awards, including a trophy for “Video of the Year” at the 2021 Soul Train Awards.
