Update: Neither Hennessy Nor Young M.A Had Anything To Do With This Collaboration

Many are saying this company stole the rapper's swag.

Updated November 6, 2016: Representatives for both Young M.A and Hennessy have come forward with statements that neither party was involved in this collaboration with the Lilac Company.

From Hennessy: Earlier this week, Hennessy discovered that a small company has been marketing a cognac called Headphanie, which it claims is a collaboration with Hennessy. Hennessy has no relationship with this company. The Headphanie product is unauthorized and was promoted without Hennessy’s knowledge. Furthermore, Hennessy has no relationship with the artist Young M.A., whose song lyrics – used in the promotion of this product – include the word “Headphanie.”
The Lilac Company has since pulled the product from shelves and also made their Twitter account private. Looks like someone has some explaining to do.

Original story below:

Young M.A is making quite a name for herself, and on top of being reputed for her incredible rapping talents, she is also well known for her love for Hennessy.

On her breakout single, "OOOUUU," the Brooklyn emcee spits, "Every time I’m out, why she stressin’ me? / You call her Stephanie? I call her Headphanie (OOOUUU)." The line, known for its witty and quotable nature, recently inspired a Hennessy collaboration with the Lilac Company that had fans quick to point fingers at the brand to make sure they pay Young M.A for utilizing her distinctive words.

With fans immediately calling out the Lilac Company for copying the rapper's catchphrase in their new branding, the company has responded that they are "in talks" with Young M.A's management, further proving they acted without involving her from the beginning stages of the design.

For the project, the signature cognac bottle got a purple makeover, with labels replacing the word "Hennessy" with "Headphanie." The special collaboration is currently being sold at two liquor stores in Florida.

"Stop saying we're tryna capitalize off @YoungMAMusic," the company responded in a now-deleted tweet. "This was an art idea, and that's all it is. We're in talks with her manager."

A rep for Young M.A shared with XXL that this product is not an authorized or supported project by either the rapper or Moet/Hennessy. We're guessing this idea may not take off in its current form but perhaps could help manifest the rapper actually getting her own special Hennessy label someday.

Take a look at some of Young M.A's fans commenting on the "Headphanie" bottle and demanding she be paid in the tweets below.
