5 Of The Biggest Winners From Past NAACP Image Awards

Tune in to BET on Saturday, Feb 26, for a celebration of Black excellence.

The NAACP Image Awards has announced its premiere date for the 53rd annual show. The ceremony is expected to be a dazzling night of trophy presentations to some of the biggest and brightest in  Hollywood. As we prepare for yet another year of Black excellence and unbelievable talent, we’ve created a list of some of the biggest winners from past ceremonies. Also, don’t forget to tune into the ceremony on BET airing on Saturday, February 26.

  • Whitney Houston

    The late Grammy Award-winning singer comes in at a total of 19 NAACP Image  Awards. Houston is also the only artist to have received the most trophies for “Outstanding Album,” coming in at a total of four wins.

  • Denzel Washington

    The revered actor has 17 NAACP Image Awards spanning from 1987 when he received the trophy for “Outstanding Supporting Actor” for his role in the political drama film Power directed by Sidney Lumet. The thespian last received an award in 2017 for his part in the award-winning drama Fences.

  • “Black-ish”

    The Kenya-Barris-created television series, which stars longtime NAACP Image Award host Anthony Anderson, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi, Marsai Martin, and more, has earned a total of 6 wins for “Outstanding Comedy Series,” the most in this category

  • Angela Bassett

    Golden Globe winner Angela Bassett has been in the industry since the mid-80s. Her remarkable talent has elevated her status in Hollywood and earned her several nominations and awards, including 12 NAACP Image Awards.

  • Anthony Anderson

    The actor and comedian has become a staple in the NAACP Image Awards community. Not only has the star kept audience members entertained over the past several years hosting the prestigious ceremony, but he’s also taken home a handful of honors himself, primarily in the category for “Actor In A Comedy Series”.
