Nicole Brown Simpson’s Sister Blasts Chris Rock Over Joke About Her Murder

Tanya Brown described the joke as “BEYOND distasteful.”

Comedian Chris Rock is under fire after a joke about the death of Nicole Brown Simpson, wife of O.J. Simpson didn't sit too well with her sister Tanya Brown.

On Sunday (Aug. 28), Rock performed stand-up at the Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix, where he reportedly poked fun at the possibility of him returning to the Academy Awards after the viral Will Smith slap incident that took place earlier this year. According to Rock, returning to the show would be like asking Simpson “to go back to the restaurant” where she left her eyeglasses before she was brutally murdered, the Arizona Republic reports.

Simpson’s sister described the joke as “BEYOND distasteful,” in an Instagram post responding to Rock’s comments.

“Nothing Is more lovely then to wake up on a Tuesday morning (Not) with TMZ calling you saying Chris Rock made a horrible ‘joke’ about Nicole,” she wrote in an Instagram post alongside a photo of Rock from the Oscars.

Also adding, “In other words, Y’all!!!! Stop using my sister, OJ and Ron part of your cricking comedy act. There are families behind this tragedy!”

In June 1997, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ron Goldman, were found stabbed to death at her home in Brentwood, California. Her husband and former NFL star, O.J. Simpson was charged with the double homicide but later acquitted in a widely publicized trial.

Rock recently declined an offer to host the 2023 Academy Awards in light of the slapping incident. The Academy banned Smith from the Oscars for a decade after he walked on stage to slap the comedian following a ”G.I. Jane” joke directed toward his wife Jada Pinkett Smith at the 2022 show.
