2021 Soul Train Awards: 3 Things To Know About This Year’s ‘Best Gospel/Inspirational’ Nominee Tasha Cobbs Leonard

The singer is up against stars including Kelly Price and more.

Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s contribution to Gospel music spans further than just her music, it’s more of her life.  Having been raised in the church and being a pastor, Cobbs Leonard’s dedication to her craft is unmatched. The singer-songwriter has had much success with projects including her 2013 effort, Grace, that earned her several award nominations including a Grammy award for “Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance” as well as  3 Stellar Awards and 3 Dove Awards.

However, at the 2021 Soul Train Awards  Cobbs Leonard will be facing off against  other hard workers in her class including Kirk Franklin, Kelly Price, and more to see who will take home the honors of  “Best Gospel/ Inspirational” artist, but before we find that out, here are three things you should know about the Gospel singer.

  • She’s a worshipper first

While many singers may have found their footing in the church, Cobbs Leonard was actually born into it. Her father is Bishop Fritz Cobbs and founder of Jesup New Life Ministries. The singer also co-pastors with music producer and husband Kenneth Leonard at The Purpose Place Church in South Carolina.

  • She’s also a fashion designer

Aside from creating gospel hits, the Grammy award-winning singer also designs and has her own athletic line called Curve Athletics geared exclusively towards plus size women. The line offers an array of items, including cropped and full length tees, biker shorts, sports bras, and leggings with each of the pieces featuring the word curve emboldened on the sides and front.

  • She’s candid about her struggles

The singer has often been vocal about her battle with depression but through therapy has conquered it. She has since used her platform to bring about awareness to mental health in the church community.

Watch the 2021 Soul Train Awards on Sunday, November 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
