Here’s What The Internet Thinks About Zoe Kravitz As The New Catwoman

The actress will be filling Halle Berry's latex suit.

Model and actress Zoe Kravitz has been named Warner Bros.’ newest Catwoman.

On Monday (Oct. 14,) the Hollywood Reporter revealed the 30-year-old underwent a crucial auditioning process over the weekend, reading alongside Robert Pattinson, who is playing Gotham City’s hero. The Los Angeles native beat out Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska, Eiza Gonzalez for the coveted role.

But this isn’t the first time Kravitz, the daughter of Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, played the antiheroine. She voiced Warner Bros. Animation’s Catwoman in their 2017 release, The Batman Lego Movie.

The Batman will also star Jeffrey Wright as Batman’s friend, Commissioner Jim Gordon, as Matt Reeves will direct the superhero film. Variety reports pre-production began this summer. Although no official start date has been set, filming could start in late 2019 or early 2020, per insider sources to Variety.

Catwoman, who is Batman's on-and-off love interest, is known for her complex love-hate relationship with the superhero.

Eartha Kitt was the first Black actress to play the feline superhero. She played Catwoman in the final season of the 1960’s “Batman” television series after Julie Newmar and Lee Meriwether in the 1966 action film.

In 1992, Michelle Pfeiffer portrayed Catwoman in Batman Returns, opposite Michael Keaton as Batman. Twelve years later, Halle Berry played Catwoman in the character’s own feature film.  In 2012, Hollywood starlet Anne Hathaway reprised the fictional character in The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.

Twitter is more than here for Kravitz's casting in the iconic role. Watch them celebrate, below:

  • The Batman will hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
