Casting Tubbs: 5 Stars Who Could Own the Role in the ‘Miami Vice’ Reboot
A stylish return to the 305 is officially underway.
Joseph Kosinski, the filmmaker behind “Top Gun: Maverick”, has been tapped to direct and produce a fresh reimagining of the iconic ’80s crime series “Miami Vice" for Universal Pictures. Meanwhile, Oscar-nominated screenwriter Dan Gilroy (“Nightcrawler,” “The Bourne Legacy”) is set to pen the script.
Plot and casting details are still under wraps, but the film is expected to revisit the neon-lit, high-stakes world that turned undercover detectives James “Sonny” Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs into pop culture icons during the show’s original NBC run from 1984 to 1989.
Though “Miami Vice” was last brought to the big screen in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell, this reboot offers a chance to breathe new life into the franchise. With that in mind, here are five stars who could absolutely own the role of Tubbs this time around.
John David Washington
From “Tenet” to “BlacKkKlansman,” John David Washington brings the calm confidence and action-star pedigree Tubbs needs.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
He’s got the range, the intensity, and the style. Whether it’s drama or blockbuster, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II delivers every time.
Damson Idris
Fresh off his gripping run in “Snowfall,” English-born actor Damson Idris could slide into the role with ease.
