Pep C and Ricky Rulez Win Red Bull BC One’s Philadelphia Cypher

The competition will begin to pick up as we head into the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Red Bull BC One, the most illustrious global competition for breakers, kicked off its 2022 U.S. campaign with an impressive stint in Philadelphia a few weeks ago. With all roads leading from this nationally recognized event to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, all of the region's best b-boys and b-girls from the region.

The unforgettable moment was delivered thanks to a brack of 16 one-on-one b-boy battles, judged by a panel of respected breakers. And while they announced Ricky Rulez as this year’s reigning champion, Pep C stole all the headlines amongst the top 14 b-girl competitors. Both will compete at the Red Bull BC One National Final in Los Angeles on Sept. 17.

“To come out on top felt amazing,” she shared with BET.com via email. “I took the night to celebrate my win because I know how important it is to celebrate small victories along the way. The truth is, even then, I knew there was so much more work to be done. That next morning, I switched right back into training mode. Paris isn’t too far away, and I still have to compete for my spot on Team USA.”

Ricky Rulez, better known as Ricky Ordoñez, has dedicated his life to studying the art of breaking and performing it at the highest level. A member of GTG and Young Kingz Colombia, he spoke with BET as well about how his hard work has continued to pay off. “It feels like a blessing, and I have to thank God for opening the doors for me this year. I’ve been working towards this moment for the past 11 years, and it just shows that no matter your situation, you can always smile and be grateful for another day. God is good, and he transforms the energy in the world, bringing happiness. That’s what I keep in mind when I dance. No matter the result.”

With 18 World Finals hosted in major cities globally since 2004, thousands of breakers have descended upon Red Bull BC One for a chance to represent at one of the most prestigious hip hop events.
