Morgan Freeman "Doesn't Particularly Want to See" 12 Years a Slave

Veteran actor explains why he's avoiding the buzzy film.

12 Years a Slave is the must-see film of the year for everyone except Morgan Freeman. The veteran actor explained to the Daily Beast on Thursday that he "doesn't particularly want to see" the Oscar-bound film.
"I saw a television movie that was made a few years ago about the same character [Solomon Northup]," the 76-year-old actor, next seen in Last Vegas, explained. "But I don’t particularly want to see it. I don’t want my anger quotient exacerbated, you know? Things are bad enough as they are. I don’t want to keep punching myself in the face with it."
Freeman, who played a freed slave in Amistad and a soldier fighting in the Civil War in Glory, is certainly in the minority with his reluctance to see Steve McQueen's lauded film. 12 Years a Slave did exceedingly well in limited release over the last week and opens in more theaters today.
