Racist Flyers Show Up Again In Jacksonville Neighborhood, Alarming Residents

Neighbors say the hate messages have united them.

A Jacksonville, Fla., community has discovered hate speech flyers Sunday (Sept. 18) in front of their homes for the third time this summer.

“White man created civilization and everything. Start having white children,” read flyers distributed in the Holiday Hill neighborhood, according to local station WJXT.

Residents, speaking anonymously with the station, said the attempts to divide people in the community will backfire.

“It’s the same one as last time. So, whoever is doing it they think that they’re going to affect us. Our community came together, and we have neighbors of all races picking them up who are disgusted by it and they’re not affecting us,” a neighbor said.

Others said intolerance is unwelcomed in the community.

“If you feel that way that’s your opinion,” another resident said. “Everyone has a right to their opinion, but please don’t bring that into this neighborhood. This is a nice neighborhood.”

Communities in Jacksonville’s southside were flooded with similar hate-filled messages in June and July, according to WJXT. Authorities have said the messages are protected free speech and not a criminal offense.

In July, a resident of Jacksonville’s Grove Park neighborhood found an anti-Semitic flyer–just one of many distributed in the community–in a plastic bag on his property and called the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, WJAX reported.

“Unfortunately, they said they can’t do anything because it is a form of freedom of speech,” said Tim Wallace, who lived in the neighborhood for 34 years, adding, “We don’t want or need that kind of racist anti-Semitic stuff in this city.
