Eddie Long's Wife Calls Off Divorce (Again)

Vanessa Long has decided to drop her divorce petition from her husband of 21 years.

If you’re having a hard time keeping up with the status of Eddie Long’s marriage, so are we.

In the most recent news, Vanessa Long has decided to drop her divorce petition from her husband of 21 years. According to the DeKalb County Online Judicial System, the divorce case between the Georgia mega-church pastor and his wife has been closed and dismissed.

The online record shows there are three new entries as of Feb. 13 related to Long’s divorce case with the descriptions “dismissal,” “certificate of service” and “dismissed without prejudice.”

This is not the first time the mega-church's first lady has decided to drop divorce charges against her husband, however. In December, she filed for divorce, saying "After a great deal of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to terminate my marriage to Bishop Eddie L. Long. Accordingly, I authorized my attorneys to file for divorce on December 1, 2011."

Surprisingly, the very next day, she released a statement through Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, saying that she loves her husband and planned to withdraw the petition. Hours later, her attorney issued another statement saying she would go through with her petition to divorce the pastor.

According to the Judicial Branch of Georgia website, “A dismissal without prejudice does not stop the plaintiff from re-filing the claim and proceeding as long as the claim is made timely (within the statute of limitations) and service can be secured.”

Over the past few years, Bishop Long has been involved in a series of highly publicized sexual abuse scandals.

In 2011, Long’s church dismissed rumors that Vanessa had moved out shortly after the Bishop settled a sexual misconduct case with four men for $15 million.

Later that year, he was accused of yet another scandal alleging that 10 of his parishioners lost more than a million dollars after being influenced by Long to invest in businessman Ephren Taylor’s company, City Capital.

The couple share three children. Long has another child, a son, by his first wife, whom he divorced in 1985.
