Claressa Shields Calls Out Online Negativity While Defending Kelly Price
Claressa Shields has stepped in to defend Kelly Price after Price’s recent comments sparked debate across social media.
Last week, the “You Should’ve Told Me” singer took to her Instagram to address the recent comments she’s been getting from Black women, BET reported.
“Black women, you are some of the most nasty, disrespectful people on God’s planet Earth,” she began.
“The things that you say about other Black women but you’re an activist, and you are educated…find yourself because a degree does not give you class. Find yourself because a degree isn’t gonna get your stupid a** into heaven. The things that you do when you go to somebody’s page and you say something that’s nasty, hurtful, and disrespectful is the equivalent of somebody ringing somebody’s doorbell, coming in their house, and trying to tell them how someone should run their household. You didn’t say I sounded horrible. You said my feet looked like boats in my shoes. You said my clothes looked disgusting. You said I’ve never had any style.”
The comments didn’t sit well with social media, with one user claiming they “were a fan until this very moment right here.”
Shields didn’t hold her tongue as she went on YouTube live and supported Price’s claims.
“I love Kelly Price’s music, and today when she spoke, she spoke about how it’s mainly Black women who are saying some of the meanest and nastiest things to her,” the boxer said.
“It pissed me off because she ain’t lying. That’s the part about it, she ain’t lying.”
The former WBA middleweight champion went through a similar experience, commenting on how social media users criticized her for her body and her fashion sense.
“The more you comfortable with yourself, the more people try to make you uncomfortable with yourself and come throwing insults. Why do y’all pick at folks who don’t want no smoke with y’all?,” she questioned.
