Mariah Carey Reveals Her Unforgettable Tupac Memory And What Could’ve Been
Mariah Carey shares a surprising wish that includes Tupac.
During her interview with Power 106, the six-time Grammy Award-winner recalls meeting the beloved artist in a brief exchange that had her giddy at the 1996 American Music Awards.
On “Brown Bag Mornings,” the host recalls a moment from Carey’s memoir "The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” where a young Mariah encounters the “Dear Mama” artist who greets her while rolling up in his Rolls Royce, simply acknowledging her and saying ‘Hey Mariah,’ a moment that left her feeling “more than butterflies.”
“Well, he said it like, ‘Hi, Mariah,’” the artist recalled softly, before breaking into a joyful scream.
The host followed up, questioning whether Carey would’ve done a record with him, to which she quickly responded, “Yes.”
The conversation then shifted to the “Caution” singer’s deep love and respect for hip-hop, as she reflected on her frequent collaborations in the genre and what inspired her to pursue them.
“It was definitely in spite of anyone telling me not to,” she explained.
“I just, I love hip-hop and I love the moments that we’re talking about, especially ‘Hi, Mariah.’ So yeah, it was a pretty major moment for me to say the least.”
The host closed the conversation by noting that the two would have made a power couple, prompting the “We Belong Together” singer to belt out, “I wish.”
The Pop veteran is currently on a press run, promoting her sixteenth studio album, “Here For It All.” The album already spawned two singles entitled “Type Dangerous” and “Sugar Sweet,” featuring Kehlani and Shenseea.
The album is set to arrive on September 26th.
Recently, the 56-year-old was announced to be the next in line to be honored as the latest recipient to receive the VMA Vanguard award and is slated to perform at the ceremony, Variety reported.
Other recipients of the prestigious badge of honor include Shakira, Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, Pink and Rihanna.
