Timbaland Says Major Networks Are Expressing Interest In ‘Verzuz’ Instagram Live Battles

“We just want to keep it where people are entertained because we’re living in a world where 16 million people lost [their] jobs.”

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s ‘Verzuz’ Instagram Live battles have taken off like wildfire across the internet, and apparently, their enterprise has become enough of a hot commodity to catch the eyes of a few major networks as well.

  • In just a few short weeks, their sound clashes have grown to become some of the most-watched content on the social platform amid the coronavirus pandemic. It also brought the hip-hop and R&B community closer, with a number of it’s biggest names, including Ne-Yo, Johnta Austin, T-Pain, Lil Jon, Mannie Fresh, and Scott Storch. Most recently, RZA and DJ Premiere faced off against each with Teddy Riley and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds slated for the next match.

On Tuesday (April 14), Timbaland spoke to TMZ about how the ‘Verzuz’ battles came to life.

“God works in mysterious ways...me and Swizz planned this three and a half years ago,” he noted. With millions of people under self-quarantine nationwide, Timb felt that it was the perfect time for him and Swizz to revisit their battle. He hit him up, and Swizz was down for the cause. “He was like, ‘Perfect.’ We didn’t promote it, we just did it,” the superproducer said.

  • Timb revealed that some major networks have been reaching out to him and Swizz expressing interest in their ‘Verzuz’ battles. Timb wasn’t opposed to considering some of the opportunities that have presented themselves. But for now, his and Swizz’s main focus is to keep spirits uplifted amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

“A lot of people contacted me and Swizz about a lot of things, but right now, we just want to keep it for the culture because it’s so organic,” Timb stated. “We don’t want to bring that part of the element in right away. We just want to keep it where people are entertained because we’re living in a world where 16 million people lost [their] jobs. We don’t want to get into the politics of it. We want to keep it natural and fun.”
