Babyface Throws Shade At R. Kelly While Sharing Childhood Story About His Teacher Crush
R&B veteran Babyface is currently on tour at the moment, and during one of his recent concert shows, the singer-songwriter-producer gave a small anecdote from his school days.
The Shade Room obtained a clip of Babyface sharing the comical recollection with the audience about the one time that something almost came between him and his music: puppy love. While in between songs, he recounted the tale about how he was enamored with his 5th grade teacher.
“Fifth grade...that was the one,” his joke began. He said that moment “could’ve changed [his] life.”
“I mean, I don’t know if I’d be standing here today if that had even happened,” he continued to the amusement of those in attendance. “It was my fifth grade teacher….And you know, I had a thing for her, but to be honest, I kind of think she had a thing for me. She kept giving me extra credit and stuff. I ain’t even do nothing for it.”
He humorously surmised he would’ve been “a whole different kind of songwriter” today if “that had happened back then.”
“I don’t know. I might write songs like R. Kelly or something. I’m just saying,” Babyface finished, eliciting shocked “Ohs” and raucous laughter from the audience. Despite his run away from the front of the stage after the statement, it’s clear that he tossed it up as a joke as he laughed at the crowd’s reaction. Nonetheless, viewers still applauded him.
People are doubled-over from laughter in The Shade Room’s comment section over his joke as well.
“No shade like the old school shade,” one user mused.
“Babyface ain't got no chilllll,” a second chimed.
“If shade was a person,” a third wrote.
