Lil Uzi Vert Spills The Tea On His Famous OOTD Posts And Love For Women’s Clothing
There’s nothing we look forward to more than a Lil Uzi Vert outfit-of-the-day flick on Instagram. From his love for Chanel purses to his knack for finding the perfect background scenery to complement his looks, we’ve come to appreciate the artistry behind the rapper’s looks. His recent photo shoot with GQ captures this perfectly!
For the out-of-the-box photo shoot styled by Simon Rasmussen, Uzi explained that this was one of the only times he’d be working with a stylist as the eccentric, cool boy prefers to dress himself and says he will never need a stylist. Wearing mostly pieces from his own closet, Lil Uzi was dressed to the nines in Prada, Dior, Chanel, and more designer fashions for the shoot in a Key Food supermarket in Brooklyn. An interesting scene, but the colorful world of a grocery store is the perfect fit for Lil Uzi’s aesthetic.
It’s been around two years since the 25-year-old Luv Is Rage 2 rapper has released an album. While his fans patiently wait for new music, Lil Uzi has stolen people’s hearts with his bubbly persona. Speaking with GQ, Lil Uzi expresses why his passion for fashion trumps music at the moment.
“Honestly, in my heart, I think I do this better than music. 'Cause the music sh%t is effortless. I actually take my time with this,” Lil Uzi explains.
His Instagram feed is more like a work of art or a mood board, showcasing how much extra love and care he truly puts into his outfits. When asked about the inspiration to post outfit-of-the-day pics, Lil Uzi explained that he always wanted to do so, he just needed the money to elevate his closet and add more clothing to his wardrobe.
“It was like when you come to the last level and you open the door and it's, like, a whole new world—not even a new level but a whole new world. You're like, ‘Wait a minute. You're telling me I can't buy all this stuff out the store, I have to get archival stuff?’ Oh, sh*t! I'm losing.”
If you didn’t already think it takes a truly artistic eye to achieve a level of style like Lil Uzi, Virgil Abloh praised Uzi to GQ for basically being a modern-day artist with his fashion.
“Lil Uzi isn't even human. He is another level of a creative being. To me, he is an Impressionist painter replacing pigments with ready-made brands and clothes,” Virgil boasts.
When Lil Uzi stepped on the scene, he was an anomaly in hip-hop: a Black man comfortable in his unique sound and sense of style. His comfortability comes with a lot of criticism, especially when he wears women’s clothing. Uzi explains to GQ that as a petite man, womenswear has always just fit him better and even revealed that he used to rock his mom’s skinny jeans.
“The women's section is waaaay better than the men's section. Always. The women's section, you usually don't have to get things tailored. It's usually just on point.”
Wondering what constitutes an outfit essential for someone as attuned to high fashion as Lil Uzi? In a video for GQ, Lil Uzi revealed that all he needs is a size 44, Dolce and Gabbana, white T-shirt and one of his 16 Goyard bags.
To say Lil Uzi is a style icon would be an understatement. Though he says he’s delayed his upcoming album to get it just right, we look forward to seeing more of his impeccable taste on the ‘gram!
