Teyana Taylor and Angela Bassett Shutdown the Runway at Vogue World: Hollywood

The 2025 Vogue World in Los Angeles celebrated Ruth E. Carter’s iconic "Black Panther" designs, bringing fashion, film, and music together in a show-stopping event.

On Sunday, October 26, Los Angeles hosted the 2025 edition of Vogue World: Hollywood, on the Paramount Pictures lot. The event delivered live performances with runway presentations, celebrating fashion, film, and music. A notable lineup of celebrities attended, taking their seats in the front row and appearing on stage.

A highlight of the evening came during the sixth act, which honored Afrofuturism and celebrated the work of Ruth E. Carter, the Academy Award-winning costume designer known for "School Daze," "Malcolm X," and "Sinners." In 2019, Carter became the first Black woman to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design for "Black Panther," a milestone that cemented her influence on visual storytelling in film.

During the segment, Danai Gurira and Teyana Taylor appeared wearing Carter’s original designs from "Black Panther," including the red-and-silver battle armor of the Dora Milaje, the all-female royal guard of Wakanda. Angela Bassett joined the presentation in the purple gown she wore as Queen Ramonda in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," accompanied by Damson Idris. The presentation highlighted the lasting impact of Carter’s designs and the cultural resonance of the franchise.

Released in 2018, "Black Panther" grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide and received seven Academy Award nominations, winning three. Its sequel, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," premiered in 2022 under Ryan Coogler’s direction, continuing the story after the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Gurira made her Vogue World debut, while Taylor returned following her performance at Vogue World: Paris in 2024, where she wore a metallic chainmail look by Rabanne.

Vogue World: Hollywood showcased fashion and performance as intertwined cultural expressions. The evening highlighted the creativity and artistry of Black designers, actors, and musicians, leaving a memorable mark on attendees and the audience alike.
