Nipsey Hussle Handcuffed for Alleged Firearm During Trayvon Martin Rally

LAPD believed West Coast rapper was behaving suspiciously.

Being in his own neighborhood landed Nipsey Hussle in handcuffs Tuesday (July 16). Cops believed the West Coast rapper had a gun and put him in a pair of temporary shackles during a Trayvon Martin rally in L.A.'s Leimert Park.
It's unclear if the 27-year-old was participating in the event or just walking around, but sources say he was doing something suspicious leading LAPD officers to believe he had a gun. Once cuffed and searched, no firearm was found and Nipsey was eventually let go.
Several people have been arrested during ongoing rallies in the area near South L.A and beyond. All over the country demonstrators have taken to the streets in response to Martin's Feb. 2012 shooting and the recent acquittal of his accused killer George Zimmerman.
Nipsey, however, was mostly unfazed by his run-in with authorities. He took to Twitter last night to clarify that weaponry isn't part of his job description. "I [sic] from slauson and crenshaw i don't go to jail I drive Benzes and smoke expensive a-- weed for [sic] living! Lapdk [sic] lol otw to the studio."

Following up with TMZ, he blamed the incident on the "hyper-sensitive LAPD officers." Apparently police "overreacted" after a bottle was thrown at his car. Nipsey and crew got out to confront whoever launched the bottle but decided to drive off before authorities intervened thinking there was a weapon involved. LAPD officers held Nipsey for four hours and mistreated his disabled brother. "They pushed his face on the concrete. They dropped a knee in his spine then twisted his arm and cuffed him while he was not resisting."

As has been argued in the Martin tragedy, Hussle believes racial profiling was at play. Cops say it was all just a mistake.

No word yet on whether or not he plans legal action against the department.
