SZA Slams Bullying of Megan Thee Stallion Over Tory Lanez Case
SZA is speaking out in defense of Megan Thee Stallion after a new, unverified claim surfaced suggesting Tory Lanez wasn’t responsible for the 2020 shooting that left the “Mamushi” emcee injured.
The Grammy winner added her voice to the chorus of support for Megan in the comments section of a video by @theluncheonlawyer on Instagram.
“The density !!!!! I’m actually SO shocked at the amount of ppl fully comfortable bullying a woman that’s proven to be a victim of assault ??!” the “Snooze” singer wrote. “Like out loud where other ppl can see you ?? Lmao u finna be stupid OUTLOUD ?”
SZA’s comment comes after a May 14 press conference held by Unite the People, a nonprofit that provides affordable legal advocacy in California.
During the event, the group’s lead consultant, Walter Roberts, introduced new testimony from Bradley James, a man who claims to have been the bodyguard and driver for Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former friend and a key witness.
“Mr. James informed us he was not under a non-disclosure agreement or a confidentiality agreement,” Roberts said. “[He said] he was doing it because his conscience would not let him not speak and leave a man in prison for something he did not do.”
According to Roberts, James claims he overheard Harris admit to firing the weapon. “In essence, [Lanez] never shot anybody, never even touched that gun,” he said.
Megan issued her own blistering statement on TikTok, slamming the resurgence of online harassment: “Why is this happening EVERY DAY??” she asked. “FACTS ARE FACTS, he did it, it was PROVEN IN COURT… Ain’t no new f**king evidence y’all been saying the same sh*t for years.”
In recent days, Drake has promoted a petition for Lanez’s pardon, while Rep. Anna Paulina Luna called for California’s governor to reexamine the case, citing alleged flaws in the trial.
Still, despite the noise, SZA and Megan’s supporters are reminding the public: the facts and the verdict still stand.
