BET Awards 2022: These Past ‘Best Actor’ Winners Earned Their Bragging Rights More Than Once
We are just weeks away from the BET Awards 2022, and we can’t be more excited. Actress Taraji P. Henson will host culture’s biggest night on Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and we couldn’t be more excited. Ahead of this year’s event, we’re looking back at some of the most memorable moments from past ceremonies, including past performers and winners, including some of Hollywood’s biggest stars to take home “Best Actor” for their onscreen performances. The following celebrities have not only earned their bragging rights as best of the best but it’s happened on a few occasions. Take a look below.
Denzel Washington
Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington took home the first win for “Best Actor” at the BET Award 2001 for his performance in the sports film Remember the Titans. The actor would win the honors at the BET Awards 2004 for Out of Time and again four years later for his role in American Gangster and The Great Debaters. The thespian also holds the record for the most nominations in this category with 10.
Michael B. Jordan
The first time Michale B. Jordan earned “Best Actor,” he scored the honors for two films, Fantastic Four and Creed, at the BET Awards 2016, beating out Anthony Anderson, Idris Elba, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Courtney B. Vance. He earned the award again in 2019 for Creed II and the year after for Just Mercy.
Idris Elba
British actor Idris Elba is a two-time BET Awards “Best Actor” winner. He initially earned the title in 2010 for his role in The Losers and again the following year for Takers and Luther.

Jamie Foxx
Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx is one of the few comedians to have taken this award home. At the BET Awards 2005, he won “Best Actor” for his part in Ray, Collateral, and Breakin’ All the Rules. The competition included several industry veterans, including Don Cheadle, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, and Will Smith. In 2013, he won the award for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Samuel was also nominated for the film.
Will Smith
Academy Award-winner Will Smith took home the “Best Actor” prize in 2002 for his performance as the late boxing legend Muhamad Ali in the biopic Ali. He won the award again in 2009 for Hancock and Seven Pounds.
