Is NYFW "Fashion's Night Out" Over for Good?

Reports hint that Fashion Week’s big opening store-hopping celebration may be closing up shop.

Hope you got your Fashion’s Night Out partying in hard this year because it may have been the last.
Fashion’s Night Out was initially created in 2009 by Vogue's Anna Wintour and designer Diane Von Furstenberg as a fun way to draw customers (and their wallets) out to stores in the deep part of the Recession, but some large retailers say they don’t generate enough revenue to cover the costs of the grand parties filled with celebrities, music, drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Furthermore, Vogue insiders tell Page Six that the event “creates too much work for the magazine.“
In two years, the event has expanded to 1178 retailers in New York City alone, has 250 other U.S. cities and 18 countries participating in 2011, including Greece, UK (London), Japan, China, Brazil, France and even South Korea. For 2011, the event has added 200 online retailers to the mix.
It’ll be such a shame to have to hang it up for one of fashion’s biggest nights.
