Master P’s UNO Homecoming: No Limit Founder Named Basketball President to Revive Privateers
Rap mogul and New Orleans native Master P has been named the president of basketball operations at the University of New Orleans, marking a significant move for the Privateers basketball program. The announcement came on February 26, 2025, as the university looks to revitalize its once-prominent basketball legacy.
Master P, born Percy Miller, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "As a kid growing up in New Orleans, I can honestly say that basketball changed and saved my life. At that time, UNO was one of the best programs in the country. It was all about Privateer Nation, and there was so much excitement on the Lakefront."
Miller’s appointment marks a full-circle moment for the Calliope Projects-raised mogul, who hosted basketball camps for inner-city youth during the late 1990s while furthering his music career, later formalizing these efforts through his Game Of Life programs. His childhood memories of watching UNO legends like coach Tim Floyd and players like Ledell Eackles and Tony Harris in the 1980s now fuel his vision for the program.
The 54-year-old entrepreneur and former basketball player aims to bring his unique blend of sports knowledge and business acumen to the program. Head men's basketball coach Stacy Hollowell praised the appointment, saying, "I am thrilled to add coach Percy Miller to our staff as President of Basketball Operations. Coach Miller cares deeply about his city, the University of New Orleans and Privateers basketball."
Master P's connection to basketball runs deep. In the late 1990s, he participated in the NBA preseason, playing for the Toronto Raptors. His son, Romeo Miller, also known as Lil' Romeo, played college basketball at the University of Southern California alongside future NBA star DeMar DeRozan.
The No Limit Records founder's vision extends beyond the court. He emphasized, "It's about educating and creating future leaders at the same time. I'm here to make sure that these young student-athletes have the opportunities, resources and mentorship to succeed on and off the court."
As the Privateers look to improve upon their current 4-25 record, Master P's appointment signals a bold new direction for the program, blending sports, education, and community engagement.
