Look: President Obama Is 'Deeply Troubled' by Recent Police Shootings

POTUS addresses the nation after the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

President Barack Obama has made a statement regarding the recent police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castileas he has done so many times during his eight-year term when tragic events have gripped our nation.

It seems statements like these have become far too common in recent years.

The statement was posted to the White House's website, as well as Obama's personal Facebook page.

He began, "All Americans should be deeply troubled by the fatal shootings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, Minnesota. We’ve seen such tragedies far too many times, and our hearts go out to the families and communities who’ve suffered such a painful loss." He continued to recognize that the shootings are “not isolated incidents,” saying there are “challenges” in the U.S. criminal justice system.

“To admit we’ve got a serious problem in no way contradicts our respect and appreciation for the vast majority of police officers who put their lives on the line to protect us every single day,” Obama said. “It is to say that, as a nation, we can and must do better to institute the best practices that reduce the appearance or reality of racial bias in law enforcement."

Through his words it is clear that the president is greatly pained by the social epidemic we now face. And yet, perhaps his office keeps him from fully expressing his personal sadness, anger, and confusion.

As his presidency nears its end, it will be interesting to see how he continues to address tragedies such as these in the coming months, and beyond.
