Man Who Stalked And Threatened Bakari Sellers Arrested
A North Carolina man is in custody in South Carolina after threatening and stalking civil rights attorney Bakari Sellers.
According to The Washington Post, Grant Edward Olson Jr. was arrested by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division on April 8. The 48-year-old was charged with stalking and assault or intimidation due to political opinions or the exercise of civil rights.
The official arrest warrant stated the Asheville, North Carolina native sent around 65 messages via Instagram that contained racial slurs and threats. One threat claimed he was armed.
Olson is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County, South Carolina.
Sellers said in a statement, “This isn’t just about me. I have a wife, a teenage bonus daughter and twin three-year-olds and I take any threat against them very seriously. They shouldn’t be subject to threats and intimidation like this. No one should. This isn’t political debate. This isn’t the ‘new normal.’ It’s a crime, pure and simple.”
Bakari Sellers is the son of leader and activist Cleveland Sellers. He is also the former Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina.
