Comedic Justice Prevails: Life Lessons from 'Ms Pat Settles It!'
On this week's installments of Ms. Pat's comedic courtroom, Pat and her jurors impart wisdom and humor while resolving various civil disputes. Here are the crucial life lessons gleaned from episodes 111 and 112.
Boyd vs Wagstaff
Episode 111
Jasmine Boyd is suing her best friend, Raven Wagstaff, for $350 in hair and makeup visits. She did Raven’s birthday slay and didn’t get paid for it, but she doesn't work for free. But because that was her friend, she was willing to wait for her money. Raven is counter suing for $1,000, saying she doesn’t owe Jasmine a dime because Jasmine’s now ex-boyfriend wrecked her car. Apparently, Raven went to get her hair done at Jasmine’s home. The boyfriend at the time, named Silk, asked Raven to borrow her car, and she said no, but he sneaked and took it anyway. Raven’s countersuit is for the deductible she had to pay back because Jasmine begged her not to press charges against Silk. You see the problem here, right? Ultimately, Ms Pat rules in favor of Jasmine for the and Raven, which means that Jasmine is on the hook for $650. Ms Pat explains that Jasmine shouldn’t have invited Raven, or any client, to her home, where her shady boyfriend could get access to their belongings, which ultimately damaged her friendship.
Lesson: Don’t let shady boyfriends get in the middle of a good friendship.
Lee vs Lamar
Episode 111
Tyrice Lee is suing his former best friend Ashley Lamar for $2,702.98, half the cost of a trip to Miami. The gist is they’re both queer. Tyrice identifies as fluid, and Ashley is a lesbian. They agreed to have a friendship baby together and they were supposed to go to Miami for fun, but also some good old-fashioned sex. Tyrice covered all of Ashley’s expenses under the condition that she pay him back. She knew she didn’t have the money, went anyway, and backed out of making the baby. Tyrice had receipts, and Ashley admitted she didn’t have the money and was embarrassed. Ms Pat ruled in favor of Tyrice and it seems like he and Ashley will work toward getting their friendship back on track, but maybe not the baby.
Lesson: Don’t go on a trip if you don’t have the money.
Pierce vs Adame
Episode 112
Decembre Pierce is suing her best friend, employee, roommate, translator, HR director, and nanny, Jacky Adame, for $2,500. Basically, she loaned Adame money so that she could get driving lessons and a license, but Jacky took the money and started a pottery business instead. Jacky said she does many jobs for Decembre’s security business and beyond but only makes $500 every two weeks. Decembre’s defense is that Jacky doesn’t have to pay bills or utilities and she gets Uber’d wherever she wants to go. Jacky admits to using the money to start the business and the pottery was brought out as evidence. It is not good. At. All. Ultimately, Ms Pat rules in favor of Jacky, stating that Decembre paying her $500 every two weeks is greedy and selfish. But on the flip side, Jacky should have demanded her worth.
Lesson: Apply a price for your worth and stick to it. Also, treat people the way you want to be treated because Decembre tried it.
