Yes, Obama Also Thinks He Lives Rent-Free in Donald Trump's Head
Does former President Barack Obama live rent-free in President Donald Trump's head?
It’s not the first time this question has popped up, but it may be the first time Obama has addressed it.
In a recent episode of “All the Smoke” podcast co-hosted by Matt Barnes, the former NBA player joined Obama at his recently opened Presidential Center. The two had a candid conversation about politics, family, and the like, when the subject matter pivoted to the current president.
“The leader of this current administration is still very fascinated with you and your family, constantly bringing you guys up, and you've been out of office nearly 10 years now. How do you continue to keep your cool and take the high road, so to speak?” Barnes said, tactfully not mentioning the 47th president by name.
“The thing about it is—look, you’ve got to ask him what it is…,” Obama said. The host then used the word “obsession” and referred to the popular sentiment that Obama lives “rent-free” in Trump’s head, to which Obama agreed. “I obviously have a room in his head. A suite in his head,” he said.
The conversation surfaced as Trump continues to attack both Obama and the former president’s family, as well as his peers’ policies. This is despite the many years that have passed since Obama was in office.
Obama didn’t frame the exchange as a personal grievance so much as a broader critique of Trump’s attention and leadership style.
“When I was president, the last thing I had time to do was worry about what somebody said or what my predecessor did. They're gone. I've got work to do,” he said. “It shows me somebody who's not focused on the American people and the job they're supposed to do.”
Trump and Obama have long been political foils, but their feud has sharpened in recent years through speeches, posts, and interviews. Obama’s latest swipe adds another flashpoint to a rivalry that continues to animate both parties and online political culture.
