Living In The Spotlight Featuring Ledisi
Get To Know: Ledisi
Ledisi is a multi-award-winning R&B singer-songwriter. A native of New Orleans, the singer was born with music in her blood. Her mother sang in a Louisiana R&B band, and her biological father was a soul singer. From the young age of 8 the star captivated people with her voice. Now Ledisi has grown to be an R&B powerhouse whose career continues to blossom.
Making It To the Spotlight
In the mid-'90s Ledisi formed a group called Anibade with other local soul and jazz musicians. The group gained popularity in the Bay Area of California. Though the group had many adoring fans, they found difficulty in getting signed to a record label. Ledisi took matters into her own hands and created her own independent label, LeSun Records. In early 2000 she released her first album, Soulsinger: The Revival.
Debut Single
Ledisi's album, Soulsinger: The Revival produced singles such as "The Soulsinger," "Take Time," "Good Lovin'" and "Get Out My Kitchen."

Coolest Connection
Not too many musicians get to say they performed for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, but Ledisi can! The star performed at the White House on multiple occasions and was even requested by the former POTUS and FLOTUS personally. President Obama was quoted saying, “Ledisi is one of our favorite people,” according to her website. A praise like that from the president is definitely remarkable!
