New Music Friday: Here's Some Heat From Saweetie, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and Rapsody

It’s Friday, and we’re back with some new hot songs to get your weekend off to a great start. This week, Saweetie, Childish Gambino, and Rapsody have each made long-awaited returns with new music.

Also, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Chance the Rapper, Esperanza Spaulding, GROOVY, MoRUf, Tina (formerly HoodCelebrityy), and Nailah Blackman add to a stellar playlist that touches a range of musical styles.

Nani- Saweetie

Just in time for the summer, Saweetie is back “swinging her body” with her latest song, “Nani.” In the video for the song, Saweetie is giving all the sexy vibes and is doing everything from twerking in a pool to hosting a party full of hotties with some fire choreography. As only she can,  Saweetie raps about her luxurious lifestyle, which she has worked hard to maintain. Saweetie raps, “Two shows, one night, what’s that? A hundred plus/Whole room full of bad b*tches, it’s a lot of us.” 

3:AM- Rapsody featuring Erykah Badu 

Hailed as one of the game's best rappers, Rapsody returned with her fourth studio album Please Don't Cry, on Friday, May 17. The album is her first since she released Eve in 2019. Produced by Lonestarrrmuzik, Marc Bridges, and S1, “3:AM” featuring Erykah Badu is the sultry third single from the album. The duet also features Amber Navran on flute, Marlon Williams on guitar, and horns and keyboards from JeMarcus Bridges and Terrace Martin.

Better Off Alone-A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie

After being on a world tour launched in April, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie released his highly anticipated fifth album, Better Off Alone. The LP features Young Thug, Future, Cash Cobain, Lil Durk, Fridayy, and Mariah the Scientist With the single of the same name, Boogie is reflecting on his journey from his humble beginning in the Bronx to becoming a rap star. Fans of Boogie should be excited after he dropped another banger.

Together-Chance the Rapper

As a follow-up to 2019’s The Big Day, Chance the Rapper has announced the forthcoming release of his newest project, Star Line Gallery. The album is inspired by his trip to Ghana and Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line, and he linked up with the legendary DJ Premier for his latest song, “Together.” Using a sample of Common’s “The 6th Sense.” On the track, Change reminisces about growing up in Chicago and the importance of Black unity. The message is timely and needed more than ever.

Outubro- Esperanza Spalding and Milton Nascimento

Grammy Award-winning bassist Esperanza Spalding has announced a new collaborative album with acclaimed Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento. Recorded in Brazil in 2023,  Milton + Esperanza is set to be released on August 9, and  “Outubro” is a remake of one of Nascimento’s original compositions from his 1969 album Courage. With dexterous musicality and organic chemistry, “Outubro '' is just the tip of the iceberg or what is destined to be a remarkable project.

“KNO ME”-GROOVY

Blending the sound of Jersey club with modern R&B, GROOVY has unleashed another banger with his new single "KNO ME." Produced by Alejandro, his frequent collaborator, the song tells the story of a relationship that has crumbled after being built on a foundation of mistrust and lies. In addition to his new track, GROOVY is preparing for the release of  EP Crying In The Club, which is set to drop on May 24.

Guy’s Girl- Alemeda

Ethiopian-Sudanese Alt-Pop artist Alemeda is making a name for herself with her newest offering, “Guy’s Girl.” Blending musical influences from Africa to hip-hop, country, and pop, the songstress has a unique sound where she incorporates her message of self-expression and empowerment. With her debut EP, FK IT, set to arrive on June 14, the best is yet to come for Alemeda.

Pressure- Nailah Blackman

Infusing traditional Caribbean rhythms with R&B, pop, and hip-hop, Trinidadian singer/songwriter Nailah Blackman is bringing the heat with her new song “Pressure.” Over the seductive track, Blackman gives a memorable vocal performance that is sure to be included in anyone’s summer playlist.  With several extensive global tours and sold-out performances, Blackman is definitely putting the “Pressure” on the industry.

Naz Joint-MoRuf

Born in New Jersey and based in Los Angeles, MoRuf has released his latest visual single, “Naz Joint.” Directed by acclaimed singer & visual artist Jesse Boykins III, MoRuf displays his lyrical prowess as he raps about all the obstacles he had overcome to make it to this moment. As the lead single from his latest EP, Tiny Mic Raps, “Naz Joint” is the personification of MoRuf's rap motif. With his iconoclastic style, MoRuf is well on his way to carving out his niche in the rap game.

She’s a Fan- Tina, (formerly known as Hoodcelebrityy)

Born in Jamaica and raised in the Bronx, Tina, formerly Hoodcelebrityy, is back with a new hot one with “She’s a Fan.” Merging elements of dancehall, Hip-Hop, and R&B for her own style, Tina delivers another bop that will be getting burned in the streets and the clubs. After changing her name to signify a new direction in her life and music, “She’s a Fan” is a must-have for any playlist.

SUCCESS- Kamaiyah

After releasing two projects, The Am3rican Dream, with Jay Worthy and Harry Fraud, and Another Summer Night in 2023,  Kamaiyah is back with her new album, Figuring Out My Emotions. Produced by Link+Up and Quake Beatz, the project follows her recent 20-city tour, during which she wowed audiences across the country. “SUCCESS” is another gem from the Oakland native that you can rock to as she continues to build momentum in her career.

#RICHAXXHAITIAN-Mach-Hommy

Underground stalwart Mach-Hommy has released his latest his new album, #RICHAXXHAITIAN. The LP features appearances from Black Thought, Roc Marciano, HEPHZIBAH, KAYTRANADA, 03 Greedo, Your Old Droog, and more. Set up against the backdrop of the political realities of Haiti, the album dropped a day before Haitian Flag Day on Saturday, May 18. On the track, "#RICHAXXHAITIAN," he links up KAYTRANADA and L.A. veteran 03 Greedo over an interpolation of Afrobeat legend Odion Iruoje's "Ikebe" where both MCs showcase their skills on the mic.
