Soul Train Awards 2022: Rémy Martin Adds Their Magic to a Classic Cocktail

The iconic cognac brand created the perfect “fall in a glass” Rémy Sidecar that’s the perfect balance of bitter and sweet.

The autumn season is in full swing and kissing on the beginning of winter days, so what better way to spend the season than cozying up next to the fire with a smooth cocktail and your favorite R&B playlist? Imagine the sweet taste of a classic Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal cognac as the sweet sultry sounds of Ari Lennox fills your home. There’s nothing quite like it.

That’s why BET is teaming up with Rémy Martin as part of the 2022 Soul Train Music Awards experience. Award-winning Bartender and Cocktail Experience Curator Josh Davis is the founder of Brown & Balanced, an organization that celebrates Black bar and hospitality professionals. Davis mixes up a library of smooth iconic cocktails at 16th Street bar in southside Chicago bar in honor of this year's awards ceremony.

The House of Rémy Martin is legendary, not just for its cognac’s taste but its rich history. The company started from humble beginnings when Rémy Martin, a winegrower in France began selling under his own name. Then in 1738, King Louis XV of France granted Martin the right to plant new vines in recognition of his cognacs, and in no time became renowned across the globe.

Davis recommends his “favorite all-time” cocktail the Rémy Sidecar, which is a fresh, crisp drink that is said to have been named after a motorcycle sidecar owned by a gentleman in Paris. The cocktail, created in 1921 gained popularity particularly in Paris and London. The delicious mixture is made of lemon juice which adds a citrus element, Cointreau liquor which is the perfect balance of bittersweet and the “star of the show,” the 1738 cognac. “It feels like fall in a glass,” Davis says, referencing its bold orange and yellow hue.

The crisp yet warm flavors of the sidecar are reminiscent of some of the melodies of today’s hottest in R&B and Soul artists, especially those featured at the 2022 Soul Train Awards. Sit back and relax with a Sidecar cocktail while Muni Long’s “hrs & hrs” spins in the background for as long as your heart desires.
