Charlamagne Reveals How Tyler Perry Helped Him Come To Terms With Being Sexually Abused
Back in November of 2010, The Oprah Winfrey Show focused on men who had been sexually assaulted. The episode featured men coming forward about their stories, including Tyler Perry. That episode had a huge impact on Charlamagne Tha God.
During an Oct. 25 episode of Daily Blast Live, Charlamagne revealed how Perry coming forward helped him acknowledge his own trauma.
The 43-year-old said, “I watched him crying and I remember saying to myself, ‘Well, you know, what’s wrong with him? Because I think the way that men process sexual assault is different.”
He continued, “I literally remember me and my guys at that age having conversations of being with older women back then. None of us processed it as sexual assault.”
The radio host also added, “Then, I just understood it more because you don’t know what that did to you.”
Charlamagne has previously revealed he was having sex with an older woman at 8 years old and didn’t think he was being assaulted. It wasn’t until Perry spoke his truth did he see it differently.
You can see more of Charlamagne Tha God on his new Comedy Central talk show, Tha God Honest Truth, every Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
