Miss Michigan Said She’s ‘From The State With 84% Of The US Fresh Water But None For Its Residents’
During Sunday night’s broadcast of the Miss America Pageant, Miss Michigan used her 10-second introduction time to remind people of the serious water crisis still facing the city of Flint.
While most people use fun facts or interesting trivia about their state in the introduction, Emily Sioma took a risk and used her platform for activism.
“From the state with 84 percent of the U.S. fresh water but none for its residents to drink, I am Miss Michigan, Emily Sioma.”
Sioma was not the only contestant to speak about important issues.
On Thursday, Miss Virginia Emili McPhail won the preliminary interview for saying football players not only have a right to kneel during the anthem but she also affirmed the protests are “absolutely about police brutality.”
Madeline Collins, Miss West Virginia, said Donald Trump is the biggest issue currently facing our country.
“Unfortunately, he has caused a lot of divide in our country, and until we can trust in him and the choices that he makes for our country, we cannot become united.”
