BET Awards 2024: Victoria Monét Sweeps Earning 'Video of the Year' and 'BETHer' Award

The R&B singer and songwriter also lit the stage with a fiery performance of "On My Mama" and "Alright."

It was a monumental night for award-winning singer-songwriter Victoria Monét at the BET Awards 2024, hosted by Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson.

The 35-year-old artist kicked off the evening by winning the prestigious “BETHer” award for her hit single “On My Mama.” This recognition, which honors motivational and empowering songs centered on women, marked a significant milestone in Monét’s career as her first-ever BET Award win.

The singer accepted the award alongside her mother. This is really amazing. It's such an honor to receive this award, especially the “BET Her” award, because I’m so proud to be a black woman; this is the lady that I put it on. This my mama,” the singer shared while accepting the honor.

She continued, "I just want to say shout out to everybody who’s in the category… I’m so happy to be here, and I know, I just want to say that we really need each other. We need to support each other. We need to collaborate with a happy face. So anybody in this room that is a Black female artist, I would love to collaborate and make that antheme that’s going to break the internet together. I know we need that."

Monét ended her speech by giving thanks to her mother, BET, and women worldwide.

The moment was presented by the season six cast of BET’s College Hill: Celebrity Edition, including Tamar Braxton, Claudia Jordan, Saucy Santana, and more.

The singer returned to the stage for an electrifying debut performance of her award-winning track, followed by her latest single, “Alright.” Her energy and stage presence had the audience on their feet.

The night continued to shine for Monét as she secured her second BET award, winning “Video of the Year,” presented by actress Niecy Nash-Betts and her wife, Jessica Betts.

Monét thanked director CHILD and the video’s choreographer, Sean Bank. “You’re so much more than a choreographer. You’re a visionary; you’re a multitasker because you’re always booked. And you’re a great friend. You got the Midas touch. Thank you so much for upgrading my performance and making me better.” she expressed.

She continued, “To every dancer that was a part of the music video. I need the world to understand how important you are [and] how much power you have to make a song break and make it successful.”

“I need everyone in the room to understand it because I need the pay to reflect that importance. But I can’t do that alone; artists can’t do that alone. We need executives, we need brands, we need unions. And protect our dancers and our future dancers so that they can make a sustainable career out of this,” she added.

Monet concluded her speech by thanking her team, her mom and daughter Hazel, and BET.
