Omar Dorsey and Crystle Roberson Say ‘I Do’ in Oceanfront Wedding

"Our wedding is a sacred dream come true," Dorsey said.

Omar Dorsey has tied the knot!

The “Queen Sugar” actor married filmmaker Crystle Roberson on Nov. 5 in front of 80 of their closest family and friends at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, Calif. Celebrities including Anthony Mackie, Ava DuVernay and Tasha Smith were in attendance.

Dorsey and Roberson's romantic journey began at the 2019 Toronto Film Festival, where Dorsey promoted his film, "Harriet." Their connection blossomed swiftly as they bonded over their mutual admiration for Gordon Parks and their shared enthusiasm for the Atlanta Falcons.

"Getting married means having a partner to navigate through life. Being with my best friend everyday, forever,” Dorsey told PEOPLE. “Being family. Taking care of one another. Hanging tight through the highs and eventual lows that will inevitably come. All the while knowing that we can get through anything together."

"Our wedding is a sacred dream come true," he added.

The backdrop for their nuptials was heavenly. The couple chose pearl and gold as the wedding color scheme to represent the sunrise, a metaphor for their new beginning together.

"We hope our marriage will be as everlasting and faithful as the rising sun," Dorsey said.

The “Selma” star also noted that the pearl symbolizes the purity of their love and the organic manner in which it formed.

During the ceremony, Roberson walked down the aisle to her favorite song, "As" by Stevie Wonder. She wore a custom pearl-embellished wedding dress designed by Grace Pei of Jinza Bridal, complete with a detachable train perfect for dancing and snapping beach photos.

Slomique Hawrylo, their planner and designer, teamed up with Dorsey and Roberson to curate a “small, intimate and sacred” event along the ocean.

"We love the symbolism of the ocean and how it feels like eternity,” Dorsey said. “We wanted to wed by the ocean but also wanted to be inside with more controllable elements. Casa Del Mar has a beautiful ballroom with ocean views that was perfect for us."

The unique wedding ceremony featured a circular seating arrangement and a Cord of Three Strands ceremony. The seating arrangement symbolized connection and eternity, while the Cord of Three Strands ceremony commemorated the joining of two people by God into matrimony per PEOPLE.

"We are both very proud of each other. We both came up against all odds professionally and we are both cheerleaders for each other," Dorsey said. "We also admire the hard work and passion each other show in everything they do. Work, friendship, play… everything."
