Miss Alabama 2021 Zoe Sozo Bethel reportedly died last Friday (Feb. 18), after sustaining serious head injuries in what authorities called a “tragic accident” taking place eight days prior.
Miami Police say Bethel, 27, fell out of a third story window and was transported to a local hospital where she lay in a coma before succumbing to her injuries. According to PEOPLE.com, the Miami-Dad medical examiner said her cause of death was blunt force trauma. "This was a tragic accident, and no foul play is suspected," said police.
According to Heavy, along with being named Miss Alabama for America Strong 2021, Bethel was a mother of one and a conservative commentator who was involved with organizations such as Project Veritas, Turning Point USA, and Liberty University.
Additionally, Bethel was a reporter for Right Side Broadcasting Network and executive producer of Miss Liberty USA.
In a post to her Instagram page on Sunday (February 20), the beauty queen’s parents confirmed her death.
“On Friday, February 18, 2022, at approximately 5:30AM Eastern time in Miami, Florida, our beloved Zoe Sozo Bethel passed from this life into the next as a result of succumbing to her injuries,” they wrote.
In an Instagram post made shortly after the accident Bethel’s family noted that “Zoe had an accident” and “sustained severe damage to her brain/brainstem & is in a coma.”
“Unfortunately the doctors are saying the damage cannot be repaired & that she may not have much time left,” they added.
The family also created a GoFundMe page, which has raised over $46,000 as of Tuesday (February 22) to cover medical and other expenses.
“She was a light in this world and we are heartbroken over the loss of such a bright and beautiful woman,” wrote the Mrs. Alabama America and Miss Alabama for America Pageants in a Facebook post. “Rest in grace and love, sweet one.”
