Faith Evans Opens Up About Biggie’s Honesty And How It Shaped Her Music
Faith Evans didn’t just debut with an album, she opened her heart to the world.
In an interview with ABC News, the R&B veteran shared that “Faith,” now celebrating its 30th anniversary, was a “love letter” to Notorious B.I.G.
“My first album was absolutely a testament, a love letter, to B.I.G.,” she told the outlet.
“It was the story of our relationship at the time.”
The “Soon As I Get Home” artist opened up about her relationship with the late Brooklyn rapper during an appearance on the “Marriage or Mirage" podcast with host Charmain Bey in 2023, BET.com reported.
When asked what she loved most about the “Hypnotize” artist, the 52-year-old smiled and said, “Everything. I loved everything about him.”
“He was honest. You understand? One thing about him, even at that young age… honest!”
The songwriter explained that no matter how harsh the reality was, Biggie never sugarcoated it. She described him as “honest as f*ck,” recalling how even when she was in the dark about certain things, the moment she asked, he would give her the truth.
“Most of the time I didn’t know what was going on, but when I did, and I asked him, and he told the truth.”
Evans and the “Juicy” rapper met in 1994 on the set of a photoshoot for Bad Boy Records eight days before getting married. The two birthed a son, Christopher Wallace Jr., in 1996 and called it quits before his passing on March 9, 1997.
