A married couple was tragically killed in a tragic accident early Sunday morning in Houston. Jackie and Patrick Delane had just finished dancing and celebrating Patrick’s 50th birthday. After they left a popular wine bar and then grabbed a quick bite at IHOP, they got in their car and headed home.

Sometime before 4 a.m., the Delanes were driving south on Interstate 45 when a black Dodge Charger driving 100 mph in the wrong direction hit them head on, reported the Houston Chronicle.

32-year-old Allan Bonilla, the driver of the Charger, was killed in his vehicle, which burst into flames upon impact.

Jeanette Crawford, Jackie's sister, was also driving home from the pancake house when she spotted a familiar vehicle on the side of the highway.  

"I was sick," she told the Houston Chronicle. "I was just saying, 'Please God, please God, don't let it be them.'"

An investigation has been opened as to why Bonilla was driving in the wrong direction. According to the police department, alcohol may have been involved.

Patrick and Jackie were very much in love. They married in 2007 and settled down together. They first bonded over their children, who were the same age.

Jackie was in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked for nearly two decades as a postal carrier.

Patrick, raised in Houston County, was a mechanic and also worked in the oil and gas industry.
