Hip Hop Awards 2022: 5 Acts of Kindness From Lil Baby
Hip hop’s shining star Lil Baby is always putting his hometown of Oakland City, located in the easter part of Atlanta, at the forefront and never wastes a chance to give back. Some of the rapper’s acts of kindness have included his annual “Back to School Fest,” which provides school supplies to local children, sneaker give-award, and job securing opportunities for young adults. Check out five acts of kindness from that Atalanta emcee.
Renovated a basketball court
Lil Baby paid a visit to his old neighborhood of Oakland City, located on Atlanta’s west side, in August 2021 to surprise the kids in the local community. The emcee teamed up with frequent collaborator Footlock to renovate a once deteriorating basketball court. He also helped give out 200 bikes to children and teenagers to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
White House with the family of George Floyd
In May 2021, the “In a Minute” emcee visited the White House along with the family of George Floyd on the anniversary of Floyd's murder at the hands of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. At the time, a reporter asked the group for the purpose of the visit, to which the rapper leaned into the frame and said, “Trying to pass the George Floyd Police Act bill.”
“Back to School Fest”
For the last three years, the “Right On” emcee has been hosting his “Back to School Fest” event where children of his old neighborhood can enjoy a day of music, games, carnival rides, food, and backpacks, school supplies, and haircuts. His 2022 event hosted 3,000 local children and collaborated with hunger relief company Goodr.
Helping to create Jobs
In July 2022, Lil Baby teamed up with restaurateur Lemont Bradley to provide jobs to 100 people under the age of 21. With the crime rate surrounding scams, robbery, and even murder being so high, we are looking to provide a positive outlet and revenue stream to those looking for an income," the two men said in a statement.
The jobs are at Bradley's restaurants, car washes, Auto Spa Bistro, Clutch Restaurant, and Eco Car Spa in metro Atlanta. They're looking to hire servers, dishwashers, car washers, tinters, and more.
Lil Baby and Footlock team up to give away shoes
In June 2021, the “Never Sleep” musician was captured on video, leaving a Foot Locker in Atlanta carrying bags of new shoes while being escorted by several of the retailer’s employees from a local Footlocker. He then reportedly went to his old neighborhood and gave the shoes to its residents.
