Meet the Guys Hoping to Cater Kendrick Lamar's Wedding
In the neighborhoods of Compton and South Central Los Angeles, Trap Kitchen is known for its delicious corn bread, seafood gumbo and array of soul food specialties. But the company is serving up a lot more than just mouthwatering grub. It's turning a stereotype about Black men from the 'hood on its head.
Founded by a group of former rival gang members, Trap Kitchen proves that beautiful — and delicious — things can come from negative situations. After trading in their choppers for whisks and making their way through culinary school, the guys started the company in 2013. In the years since, they've developed a following not only in their own 'hood, but among huge celebrities as well. Common, Ice Cube and Kendrick Lamar are just three of the famous dudes who are huge fans.
In fact, Trap Kitchen may have their biggest opportunity yet if a plan to cater K. Dot's wedding pans out. While it's not official yet, it would be very much in line with Kendrick's ethos to hire community-based cooks and support a flourishing local business.
